The Tombs of the Burgundian Dukes |
 |
Dijon has long been at pains to promote its rich historical legacy as expressed in an architectural environment of exceptional value. Following on from the work accomplished on the Puits de Moise (Well of Moses), the restoration of the tombs of Philippe le Hardi and Jean Sans Peur, helps to give us a clearer picture of the influence exercised by the Dukes in the artistic and cultural sphere. During their reign, Dijon became an early example of a European capital!
The townspeople are rightly proud of this restoration, carried out by the municipal authorities in close cooperation with the State services and with the financial backing of the Getty Foundation. It was essential that such masterpieces should be restored to their original glory.
The cultural department of the Dijon Fine Arts Museum organises programmes of visits for groups on request.
